Uniform Information
Cheadle Catholic Infant School is fully inclusive and it is through a firmly rooted ethos and values that we endeavour to prepare pupils fully for the life ahead of them.
Our school uniform is important to us. We strive to reduce all barriers, and our uniform helps to create a strong cohesive school family, promoting harmony between all pupils.
1. Aims
This policy aims to:
· Set out our approach to requiring a uniform that is of reasonable cost and offers the best value for money for parents and carers
· Explain how we will avoid discrimination in line with our legal duties under the Equality Act 2010
· Clarify our expectations for school uniform
2. Our school’s legal duties under the Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 prohibits discrimination against an individual based on the protected characteristics, which include sex, race, religion or belief, and gender reassignment.
To avoid discrimination, our school will:
· Make sure that our uniform costs the same for all pupils as they move through school
· Avoid listing uniform items based on sex, to give all pupils the opportunity to wear the uniform they feel most comfortable in or that most reflects their self-identified gender
· Allow all pupils to have long hair (though we reserve the right to ask for this to be tied back)
· Allow all pupils to style their hair in the way that is appropriate for school yet makes them feel most comfortable
· Allow pupils to wear headscarves and other religious or cultural symbols (although this must meet health and safety
requirements.)
Allow for adaptations to our policy on the grounds of equality by asking pupils or their parents to get in touch with the headteacher who can answer questions about the policy and respond to any requests.
Earrings:
For safety reasons, pupils are not permitted to wear earrings in school. If your child has recently had their ears pierced and cannot remove the studs, they must cover them completely with tape, front and back, for the first six weeks.
Please note that taping is not a suitable protection for all activities. Therefore, students with taped earrings will not be able to participate in contact sports or games like dodgeball.
It is your responsibility as a parent to ensure your child's ears are taped securely. School staff will not tape or remove earrings. After the six-week healing period, all earrings must be removed before coming to school.
While some students may use clear retainers, they are not permitted in school due to the risk of injury.
