Summer Term 2010
  Newsletter 10

Here I Am

Treasures…The final topic in the Summer term looks at the treasures of our world. Children learn about the beauty of God’s creation and all the gifts of the world. We think about how we care for and share all the treasures which God has given to us. Suggestions for home activities;

Talk about everyday treasures in our lives, as a family think of ways we can show our appreciation of all that we have, think about our responsibility to care for the treasures of the world so that everyone can benefit.

Curriculum News

This half term each year group is busy learning, investigating and being challenged through the different topics being taught in school. All year groups have enjoyed observing and caring for our caterpillars which then cocooned and after a week hatched into beautiful butterflies. Each year group released them into our wildlife area. We hope they will feel at home there!

YEAR TWO, next week will be visiting Bramall Hall for their Katie Morag trip. They are looking forward to using their Geography skills on this trip!

SUPERGROUNDS…We were delighted to invite Mrs. Cassidy in to school to officially open our Wildlife area. The children are very excited as we have a family of blue tits in one of our bird houses! We are looking forward to adding further structures and plants etc to this area. My thanks go to you all for the generous donations made for our sponsored walk. The children and staff looked amazing in their costumes too!!

SCHOOL COUNCIL…On behalf of the School Council and Year 2, I would like to thank you all for the support given towards to Cake Sale. The children raised £300 for the children in Uchira. Mrs Dorothy Brady is coming to talk to the children in Year 2 about the children and their school. She will be accepting the cheque and passing it onto Fr Malingi. Thank you.

HEALTH & SAFETY…  On Friday I received an e-mail from the Park ranger at Bruntwood requesting that all parents adhere to the 10 miles an hour limit in the park, it is in place for the safety of all children and park users. We are fortunate that the park allows you to park at drop off and pick up times and we wish this to continue. So I ask you all to adhere to the 10 miles and hour speed limit and follow the traffic management systems in place. Thank you.

SAFETY in the SUN… please can you send your children in with sunhats. We advise you to put sun cream on in the morning.

PSA News…Thank you for your donations to BAGS 4 SCHOOLS. We raised £312.

On Friday 2 July we had a lovely evening at the Family Fun Night. My thanks go to all staff and parents who helped on various stalls and also for all the donations both schools received. It was lovely to see so many families supporting this event. We raised in the region of £2, 600. This will be shared with both schools. Thank you.

On Saturday evening, the Summer Extravaganza took place at the Hallmark Hotel, Handforth. This event was well supported by parents and staff of both schools. We raised in the region of £2, 700. I wish to thank you all for supporting this event but special thanks go to Anne-Marie Nugnes and her team of helpers from our PSA who have spent many months organising the evening. I think you will agree with me they did a wonderful job. Also a big THANK YOU to ‘Gladys Pugh’ aka Liz Stringer who was our compare for the night, she looked amazing as a Yellow Coat!!! Auction prizes are available for collection at the Infants. Thank you.

The work our PSA does for the school is wonderful and it enables us to do so much for the children. Thank you again for all your support and generosity.

Mrs Brown is expecting her baby in October. We will see her in September for a few weeks. I have told her to make sure she has plenty of rest over the holidays! We all wish you lots of love and congratulations too!

I am sad to say we will be losing a member of staff in August. Mrs Barker is retiring. She has been a member of staff at our school for 19 years.
